Mrs. Sandra Boyne is currently the Research Manager in the Dean’s Office – Faculty of Medical Sciences, The University of the West Indies, Mona. In this role, she is responsible for supporting the many research projects within the faculty, including training and facilitation of project management.From 2012 to 2022 she was the Manager at The UWI Solutions for Developing Countries (SODECO) an organization which focuses on developing solutions for medical and socio-economic challenges. Prior to that, she was the Manager of another UWI entity, the Tropical Medicine Research Institute for 10 years. Mrs. Boyne is a graduate of St. Andrew High School for Girls (Class of 1981). She attended The University of the West Indies, Mona and was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology followed by a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree in 1991. Her research focused on the cultivation of marine organisms, particularly molluscs, such as oysters, in sea-water. Whilst finishing up her M.Phil studies, she took up an Environmental Officer position at the Jamaica Bauxite Institute and later worked in environmental monitoring whilst in the USA. Her early work experience, particularly in the USA exposed her to human resources and organizational management. Mrs. Boyne’s background in environmental science with excellent communications, proposal writing and organizational management skills have led to a career in the management of a variety of scientific research organisations.
