Adrian Dunkley is a Jamaican physicist, artificial intelligence (AI) researcher, entrepreneur, and technology leader. He is best known as the founder of StarApple AI, which has been described as the Caribbean’s first AI company, and he has worked on projects that use data and AI to solve real-world problems in areas such as finance, climate science, education, and public safety. Mr. Dunkley earned his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mathematics and Physics from The University of the West Indies, Mona in 2009 and did courses in economics as well. After completing his first degree, Mr. Dunkley worked in the Physics Department and on projects as a Machine Learning Engineer, developing models for climate change, public safety on roads, marketing mix, credit risk and fraud detection systems. He went on to implement consultancies for several financial institutions before starting StarApple AI in 2019. He has gone on to establish other companies including most recently Maestro AI Labs which builds the infrastructure and data assets that power AI across industries. He is al so involved with the Climate Studies Group in the Department of Physics at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, where his research explores how AI can be used to improve climate modelling and help Caribbean countries prepare for hurricanes and other environmental challenges. A life-long learner, Mr. Dunkley has earned two Master of Science (M.Sc.) degrees, one in Enterprise Risk Management from The University of the West Indies, Mona (2014) and the other in Financial Engineering from WorldQuant University (2020). He is currently working on a Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from the University of Sunderland, UK studying physics-informed AI systems for Quality-of-Life optimization. Adrian Dunkley serves on several Boards and volunteer organization. Hehas received recognition for his contributions to science, technology, and innovation. Including, the Caribbean AI Innovator of the Year, the AWS Activate AI Award, and EY Entrepreneur of the Year and in July, 2026, The UWI Mona – Faculty of Science and Technology Alumni Excellence Rising Star Award.
